Thursday 9th June 2005 The job is confirmed, we sail tonight at midnight to a gas installation in the North Sea. Must dash, lots to do.
Friday 10th June 2005 Textbook stuff, the job was completed by 0900 and we headed back for Lowestoft, arriving at 1400. Everything worked and we were on our way to Norwich by 1500, having offloaded all equipment. The roll of the ship feels very gentle compared with the vicious righting lever of an ocean rowing boat.
Saturday 11th June 2005 Today I have reached the tender age of 49 and a half. Half birthdays count don’t they?
Neet and I set out early to drive to Portland in Dorset, where we attended a launching party for the sister ship to our big boat. Owned by Jim and Dee Woodward from Boston USA, the Fintry was built on the same slip, at the same time as our Dornoch. (Just a coincidence, but Jim’s real name is James Little Woodward!). We were entertained with true American hospitality and had a sail around Weymouth Bay before heading into town for a most agreeable curry. Jim and Dee have a website at mvfintry.com and we have a small information site at mvdornoch.com.
Sunday 12th June 2005 We returned to Norwich today, and spent a social afternoon at the pub.
This will be my last daily entry for a while; I shall update on a weekly basis from now until we have some more regular exciting stuff to relate, but please do visit regularly; there are events and things afoot which may be of great interest to some of you and I don’t want you to miss them.
